Telling the truth will always heal, even if the words spoken create a temporary hard path for someone. It’s difficult sometimes to watch a person head down a road of destruction knowing there are serious consequences.
Decisions must be made to either disrupt a person’s habits who seems to be enjoying life or let them learn things the hard way. Genuine love will do anything possible to rescue a person from a harsh consequence that lies just around the corner. This is true even though speaking the truth will possibly anger or hurt them. It is a true test to see who is bigger in our lives, God or the person we do not want to hurt with the truth.
There are risks involved that may cost a friendship or relationship. That person may never speak to us again and continue on a wrong path but God is pleased with obedience. To decide not to lovingly correct the one we love is to choose a temporary gratification for that friend. That decision will lead to having to watch that friend endure a horrible consequence later. There is also a consequence for ourselves for making God’s will our second choice. To be right with God gives the peace that passes all understanding and that peace is the greatest favor we can pass on to someone else. Our obedience is our responsibility. Their response is God’s responsibility. Obey God and leave all the consequences to Him.
Luke 6:46-48
So why do you keep calling me ‘Lord, Lord!’ when you don’t do what I say? I will show you what it’s like when someone comes to Me, listens to My teaching, and then follows it. It is like a person building a house who digs deep and lays the foundation on solid rock. When the floodwaters rise and break against that house, it stands firm because it is well built.
