Waiting upon the Lord many times means developing endurance and strength. The longest waits seem to be when we are waiting on another person to have a change of heart. When the habits of others bring us to tears, waiting is almost unbearable.
There are bosses who continually yell and say negative things. They will belittle an employee in front of their coworkers. Coworkers become very quiet hoping they are not next or they will giggle after he is done making matters worse. Either way, the coworkers are not for us because nobody defended us.
Jesus was on a cross making a way for us to have favor with God. While He was giving us the greatest act of love that can be given, nobody defended Him. His closest friends were either silent or nowhere to be seen. Jesus understands.
There are people we love dearly whom we take under our wings. There is great potential that is going to waste. Hours of prayer are spent on these struggling people. Great efforts are given to comfort, support and encourage them yet the horrible day comes when they cut all ties and choose a path of destruction.
Jesus speaks of the prodigal son. The dad sits silently by as his son goes through hardships that no father would want for their child. Jesus understands.
Friends will fail us, family will disappoint us and people we serve will not always be fair but God has greater plans. We can learn from these two examples of Christ that waiting and allowing God to do His greatest work will result in blessings greater than we can imagine.
Jesus died on the cross yet He rose. This is the good news we share even today so others can be saved. Jesus also tells us about the loving father who prayerfully waited while his son was into wrong things. That son came back home with a loving and kind respect.
These examples can be applied to the boss, coworkers and the struggling person. Only God knows what He is preparing for our outcomes but it is good. God has plans and they are beautiful. In the 23rd Psalm which is the favorite of many people, He speaks of preparing a table in the presence of our enemies. There are no enemies in heaven therefore He has plans for us here too. We have much to look forward to while we are in the waiting pool. Each moment we wait we are one moment closer to a beautiful blessing.
Psalm 27:13-14
Yet I am confident I will see the Lord’s goodness while I am here in the land of the living.
Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous.
Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.
