A young person wants to join a basketball team at school and is picked over. He is a star athlete or so the thought. Self pity and feelings of rejection completely take over. The following year a new coach takes over. This coach approaches the young athlete stating there is a place on the basketball team for him now. The young man’s response to the coach is to go fly a kite.
This young person is thinking they missed their chance. Pride takes over and this young person misses yet another chance.
Another young person wants to join a basketball team and he too is picked over. He is also a star athlete in his mind. He walks away from the try outs baffled but refuses to think of himself as less than a star athlete. He continues to shoot hoops with the neighborhood boys and refuses to give up. The following year a new coach approaches him to let him know there is a place on this year’s team for him. He accepts with much enthusiasm then goes on to to be the star player and helps to win the championship.
Rejections happen but a rejection never changes the true worth of a person. Only thoughts can make or break a person. Another person’s choice to reject someone is their own idea. The person receiving the rejection chooses the response.
Proverbs 23:7a New King James Version
For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.
