Before olympic game competitions there are large build ups to the big events. People work out for years training their bodies to accomplish amazing things yet there can only be one winner. Professional and amateurs prepare for a large opening event that is very entertaining. Others will buy tickets long in advance to view even one of the events. Yet the most sought after position is the one of carrying the olympic torch for a short distance only to pass along to another runner.
The final runner is the one who gets to light the final olympic flame. Many people turn out to watch this final lighting. It is beautiful, it is warm and it represents the best of the best. There is one more torch which is carrying the gospel of Jesus Christ to the next person.
Carrying the gospel from one person to the next requires each person to do their part. Some are gifted in prayer intercessory for others who speak. Some are gifted to speak to large crowds of people effectively while others speak to one hard to reach person. Some are gifted to travel, speak other languages and blend with different cultures while others are gifted to reach those in the immediate area. There are even some who are gifted with the ability to smile beautifully to people and speak an encouraging hello and others are gifted with an abundance of money to help others.
Eternity with our Father is the most beautiful light of all. His light far outweighs the light of the olympic flame or even the sun. Heaven is lit up with the love of Jesus Christ and it lasts forever. No-one should miss this event. Each of us gets the privilege and honor of carrying a greater torch which is to be passed along to ones waiting to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Today is the day to offer a smile to someone who needs one or phone someone who appreciates hearing from us. All things done in the love of Jesus Christ is to carry the brightest torch ever made.
Romans 10:14-15 New Living Translation
But how can they call on Him to save them unless they believe in Him? And how can they believe in Him if they have never heard about Him? And how can they hear about Him unless someone tells them? And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent? That is why the Scriptures say, “How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news!”
