The truth isn’t always popular but it brings security. When the truth is told we know exactly where we stand and we have a strong platform where we can build. It’s better to know what is really ahead of us than to think something is greater than what is really there.
We have all met people who tell us what we want to hear. We walk away pumped up with happiness but there is no truth in those words. While we are being told one thing another person is being told the opposite making them walk away pumped up. It is a blessing when the truth is later exposed even though it is disappointing. It is at that time we can pick up the pieces and move on.
These people who gain popularity telling everyone what they want to hear are only setting themselves up for a fall. Eventually the truth comes out and respect of such a person is lost by both sides.
When we are surrounded by troubles it’s better to seek advice from a truthful person even though his answer may not be popular. Only in truth can we grow past certain obstacles, otherwise we become ok with obstacles and we will eventually be consumed by them.
There are other types of lies that hurt the one doing the lying more than the one receiving the lies. A person purchases an item saying they will pay back later. Each day they say tomorrow payment will come until one day the lie changes. They will tell us they gave us payment already with an added “don’t you remember.” There becomes a day when they will no longer discuss it. We may be out of a payment but they lose respect and can no longer be trusted with anything else.
Lies exposed hurt a lot of people but out of the broken pieces God creates beauty and He deals with the ones who lie. Truth is something we can rely on. Truth sets us free to build on a firm foundation.
Ephesians 4:29b New Living Translation
Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.
