When We Feel Unimportant

God has made each of us in His image and for His purpose.  All people and talents are needed in order to complete His big picture.  Therefore we are to joyfully do what He has called us to do.  We may not be the head of a large corporation but we pray for those who are.  Our team may not win the pennant but we congratulate the winning team.  The person we voted for in the election may not have won but we trust God to use that person to accomplish the task.

On a more personal level we look at our own talents and skills.  How do we use our abilities to bring attention to God?  We may have a job to do weekly that earns a living or we may be the one to remain at home keeping house.  It’s not what we are called to do as much as it is how we rise to our calling.  God sees all people and He knows all attitudes.  While we may feel unimportant God sees otherwise. 

As children our parents used to always tell us to do as we are told.  We didn’t always understand why but we knew there would be a consequence if we did not and one day we would know why we had certain rules.  There will be a day when we will understand why God called us to fill a certain slot in life.  While we may not feel we measure up to another person God gauges us on how well we obey what He called us to do.  There are no unimportant people because each of us is called according to His divine purpose.

Yes, the body has many parts, not just one part.  If the foot says, “I am not a part of the body because I am not a hand,” that does not make it any less a part of the body.  And what would you think if you heard an ear say, “I am not part of the body because I am only an ear and not an eye”? Would that make it any less a part of the body?  Suppose the whole body were an eye—then how would you hear? Or if your whole body were just one big ear, how could you smell anything? But that isn’t the way God has made us. He has made many parts for our bodies and has put each part just where he wants it.
