Has it ever been that you wanted something very badly and you pray and pray for an obstacle to move and it does not? You try every technique you know and nothing works to unlock that door. You approach all the right people and you do all the right things and still nothing works. Your full concentration is on that desire and how you can manipulate just one more thing to remove what you think is the obstacle and it’s like being stuck in the mud. All you do is spin your wheels and you get further away.
Lets consider for a moment a possible obstacle to the obstacle you are trying to get removed. Have you been totally honest with God in your prayer? Have you been honest with yourself? Many times people will pray for something that is an end result without considering the steps that need to be taken to get there. You want to be valedictorian yet you are a C student. When you pray for that honor do you pray because you want the recognition or do you want to become an A student first? You are a solo musician and your skills are equal to the skills of the one receiving the solo. Do you pray for that spotlight to shine on you instead of your friend or do you pray that you will be the one chosen next time?
Many times God is trying to teach you something in the midst of these immovable obstacles that prevent you from achieving your goal. Unfortunately for most of us the biggest obstacle is pride. If you dig even deeper into your own emotions you may find that there is a streak of envy that makes you wish your competition fails.
Many times the cause of delayed answers to prayer is a result of not being fully honest with your own desires. You pray for a specific result but another result will bring you much greater peace. Any time you pray for a result that hurts another person the obstacle is there for your own protection. Let’s take the musician situation for example. In order for you to get that spotlight it would mean disappointment for the person who got the solo. You get that solo after much manipulation and underhanded techniques and the spotlight is on you. You walk away puffed up and get your recognition. Moments later it is all forgotten. You look back and realize you have lost a friend. You have lost the respect of those you manipulated around. You have the rest of your life to remember that moment as one that cost you things much more valuable than the solo. It is for that reason God does not allow certain obstacles to be removed.
When these things are important enough seek after, why not be honest with God from the beginning. Lord Jesus, please grant me an opportunity to experience a spotlight in Your timing Lord and in Your way. Lord Jesus, may Your name be glorified through the experiences granted that will also fulfill me.
God knows your full heart and when you are totally honest with Him it will not be long before the brick wall behind you will crumble. You will not need to unlock that door because you are free to move beyond that crumbled wall.
Isaiah 30:18 New Living Translation
So the Lord must wait for you to come to Him so He can show you His love and compassion.
For the Lord is a faithful God. Blessed are those who wait for His help.
