A River Too Deep

It’s very peaceful to sit in a flowery area beside a still glassy river.  Occasionally there is a small rustling of the waters after a gentle cool breeze or a splash of a water creature moving about.  It is a comforting reminder that God is still in control no matter what the circumstances.  Looking beneath the deep river we find rusty cans, molding plants, animal waste and a rough rocky bottom.  Nature has its own way of covering a multitude of undesirable things underneath the surface.

There are people who are the same.  They are all smiles on the outside.  They give an illusion they care about others and leave people thinking there is no greater friend than this particular one.  While people are feeling comfortable with the friendship once this one has walked away it’s a different story.  Lies, cheating, back stabbing, foul language, forbidden pleasures and wrong intentions are only a few of the hidden vices beneath the surface of such a beautiful friend.  Such a person is a false example of goodness and certainly is not a friend.  Many are fooled by such people because the smoothness of words and certain actions cover it all up.

Eventually the truth comes out and trusting people are deeply hurt.  While it may seem these ones are getting by while the ones who are hurt are getting the punishment from them, God knows all things.  He sees the smooth, almost perfect surface but at the same time He sees even more what’s beneath it all.  God looks at the heart and there will be a day when God will say, “enough.”

Ephesians 5:1-6   New Living Translation

Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are His dear children.  Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ.  He loved us and offered Himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God.

Let there be no sexual immorality, impurity, or greed among you.  Such sins have no place among God’s people.  Obscene stories, foolish talk, and coarse jokes—these are not for you. Instead, let there be thankfulness to God.  You can be sure that no immoral, impure, or greedy person will inherit the Kingdom of Christ and of God.  For a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world.

Don’t be fooled by those who try to excuse these sins, for the anger of God will fall on all who disobey Him.

Gripping Fear

A test is coming tomorrow.  We study and know all the answers but in our minds are the fears of many things.  What if the chapters we study are not the ones on the test.  What if we draw a blank.  What if our pencil point breaks.  What if, what if, what if the...
