In order to effectively fly an airplane there must be a pilot. The most desirous situation is to have a copilot in addition to the pilot. These two operators make sure the airplane reaches its destination at the appointed time. The fuel for the plane makes it possible for the pilots to run the plane and the baggage is placed behind them. Without fuel the pilots are helpless when it comes to getting to the destination. However, the fuel itself, unless used, serves no purpose. The baggage is desired but not necessary in order for the pilots to fly the plane. One would never allow the baggage to operate the plane even if the bags contain gold bars.
Considering the workings of an airplane, these same facts can apply to our spiritual lives. The word of God is the fuel needed in order to effectively know the will of God. However without our willingness to carry out God’s will He will be forced to go with another one of His children to carry out the task. Our emotions serve no purpose in the fact that the Bible is true and the great commission is the instruction God has placed before us.
Many times actions are based on emotions and this is a guarantee of failure or a delay in getting an answer to prayer. Time is wasted while God repairs the damage and deals with us. God, Who knows all things, is fully aware of situations that bring us to anger or tears and He is honored to deal with the causes. Emotions are like the baggage carried on a plane and should never be placed in charge while we strive to reach the goal placed before us by God.
Galatians 5:16-17 New Living Translation
So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions.
