Hot and cold running water is taken for granted in many places. A roof over our head and enough to eat are easily enough gained. Most people drive a car, have access to a good education and a cell phone. A lot is expected at holiday time for gifts and stores to shop. While we take so much for granted there are others who have very little.
A missions group recently traveled to a third world country and the moment they stepped off the plane there was an immediate change of attitude. People had to walk a long way for a bucket of water or to have a bath in a small body of water. There were no shopping centers and very few convenient stores. It was mainly desert. The people were poorly educated and housing was made from things people put together.
From the testimony given by these missionaries these third world country residents are far richer than many of us who have material things. These people greet with a smile. They are glad to see everybody. They make use of the plants and materials around them. These people too have shelter, water and food but their wisdom from God tells them how to make a living day to day.
The people who have very little are totally dependent upon God and His grace and wisdom. If any of us need farming advice or wisdom on how to dwell among others effectively, they would be the ones to ask. Ask a rich person and they will refer to the cell phone and read an answer.
The richest advice comes from ones who have relied on God and have experienced obeying instruction from the Holy Spirit.
Who is really richer, the wise or the ones with material things?
Proverbs 2:6-8 New Living Translation (NLT)
For the Lord grants wisdom! From His mouth come knowledge and understanding. He grants a treasure of common sense to the honest. He is a shield to those who walk with integrity. He guards the paths of the just and protects those who are faithful to Him.
