Sometimes We Just Need A Break

by | Jun 19, 2019 | Encouragement | 0 comments

There are times when we just need a break from day to day life.  Jobs get to be too much, daily routines become too ordinary and even the world around us is coming unglued.  We may not be personally effected by any of this but the things going on around us unsettles our spirits.  The Bible speaks clearly of chaos in the last days and the evidence is certainly here.  Finding that perfect place to unwind is difficult so we think about a vacation.

Vacations are changes of scenery and changes of pace for a brief time but after the vacation comes the routine again.  For a very short time the routine seems ok after a vacation but things quickly eat at us again.  The vacation is quickly forgotten but if we take a moment just to think, ponder, meditate and remain still the vacation will come to us spiritually.  Where should our thoughts be?  God.  What about God?  His omnipresence, power, strength and love come to mind but take a moment to ponder just a couple verses in Genesis.

To really ponder God is to break down a scripture into segments we can understand.  Only then can we start to understand the limitlessness of God’s hand.  In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.  Only God can create Himself and He has always been and always will be.  Just that alone is comfort that He can restore even the most broken situation.  Think about vacations.

Many people choose the beach.  A beach has beautiful sands, peaceful crashing of waves and lots of water for as far as we can see.  It’s amazing that even when the earth was formless and empty and dark it covered deep waters.  Water is everywhere, even in us.   The driest desert has low humidity, not no humidity.  God hovered over the surface of the waters in Genesis.  This was even before the earth was formed.  Doesn’t it make sense that God hovers over us at all time since our bodies are made up of a large percentage of water?  Think about it.

If we could just spend time thinking about God we would quickly realize His power and holiness.  When we place our thoughts and trust in God first we start to see things the way He sees them.  Imagine ourselves standing with God looking down at our situation.  We will soon see that only God can move people, places and things to work all things out.  When we are on God’s side we are truly on a winning team no matter how big the circumstance.

Genesis 1:1-2 New Living Translation (NLT)

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters.
