Worse Than Lies

Sometimes decisions are based on the words of another person.  In good faith we accept what they say as truth.  Later we learn that what we were told is false.  We are stuck with having to undo actions that were made based on false statements.

In today’s politically correct world it is becoming more of an acceptance to tell people what they want to hear.  There are no facts but only a bunch of feel good words.  We find these words in government, pulpits and large corporations.  Then the truth comes out and it stinks.  There is one hardship after another almost like opening a Pandora’s box.  Things will never fully heal.

On a more personal level, especially with dating partners, a person is made to feel like paradise.  Promises are made for commitments with slick irresistible words.  Actions such as excitement, photos, conversations and preparations are made yet as time goes on the hard facts stab the heart like a flaming arrow.  The feel good words turn into the worst nightmare ever.

What about job interviews?  A potential boss acts like there is a chance of a job.  Even when that potential boss knows a person is not a good fit he will say there will be a phone call by the end of the week with a decision.  The applicant walks out feeling really positive.  The end of the week comes and no call or letter. 

There are numerous situations where people will say what will make another person feel good for the moment.  The harsh truth later can really crush one’s spirit.  Sometimes it’s hard to understand why such people seem to continue on in happiness while they leave behind a trail of tears.  However each person, company, boss, church or government that gives only feel good words will account to God.  Feel good words are decorated ways of saying lies.  God hates them.  People who have been hurt by them hate them.  While vengeance belongs to God, we have the option of not trusting the people who lie and moving on to more honest people.  God’s ways are not our ways and He vindicates His children.

Psalm 55:20-22

 As for my companion, he betrayed his friends; he broke his promises.
 His words are as smooth as butter, but in his heart is war.
His words are as soothing as lotion, but underneath are daggers!

 Give your burdens to the Lord, and He will take care of you.
He will not permit the godly to slip and fall.
